Dear Archive Lady,
What the heck is a Coryat score?
-- Confused in Connecticut

Dear Confused,
A Coryat score, named after "Jeopardy!" contestant Karl Coryat, is basically a contestant's score entering Final Jeopardy, with the following exceptions:

1. If the contestant responds correctly on a Daily Double, he or she is credited with the face value of the clue, instead of the amount wagered.

2. If the contestant misses a Daily Double, he or she is not penalized and the wager amount is not subtracted from his or her score.

Karl came up with this method to gauge how well he did when watching the game at home. Here is his reasoning: "Don't count the Daily Doubles; treat them as regular clues. In other words, feel free to guess at them, and if you get one right, give yourself the value of the square; if you're wrong, count it as a pass. The reason I don't believe in wagering at home is that you want your score to accurately reflect your true performance in handling all of the material, and wagering on Daily Doubles puts too much weight on three of the 60 questions."

Dear Archive Lady,
I'm stumped. What's a triple stumper?
-- Nowledgeless in New York

Dear Nowledgeless,
Contrary to popular belief, a Triple Stumper is not the final competition in the Lumberjack Games. It's actually a clue that stumps all three contestants. Sometimes no one even makes a guess, which is when you'll see the term used on this site. However, if one or more of the contestants responds incorrectly, and no one is able to come up with the correct response on the rebound, that is also considered a triple stumper.

Dear Archive Lady,
I clicked on a dead link on your site. What gives?
-- Linkless in Lansing

Dear Linkless,
I hate dead links as much as you do. Please send me an email by clicking
here. Let me know which game had the dead link, and which link it was. I'll make every attempt to correct it.

Dear Archive Lady,
I need a tape of episode # 4531, along with some screen captures. Can you help?
-- Needy in Nebraska

Dear Needy,
I'm sorry, but I have now taped over all season 20 episodes, and the only thing my old computer knows how to capture is dust.
